YSL Babydoll Mascara Review: New Product Love

Blog Pic 2

So as you know I recently purchased YSL Babydoll Mascara for $30.00 from Sephora. I’ve been using it for the past few weeks and I feel like the picture really says more than I could ever say. But first of all, I do love the packaging. The classic gold makes the product look quite decadent.

The wand is a little smaller than others but don’t let this fools you. I like how much control it gives me as far as application; the bottle allows just enough product on the bush. The formula is great, not too wet, not overly drying, and it constricts your lashes up & out right before your eyes. And I like that it doesn’t clump or flake later in the day…everything stays put.

The Verdict: It’s on the pricier side, but honestly I do love it. With this alone my lashes are huge and my eyes really do pop. The will definitely be on my “Love It List” but it’s not something I’ll constantly repurchase.

Healthy Hair Journey: My Random Tips List

Hey Guys,

Every time I write anything or give advice on a healthy hair care journey I always feel like either I’m leaving something out or saying too much. So I’m going to compile a list of as many random tidbits as I can rattle off. Here we go…

  1. A clean scalp is a healthy scalp…wash/ co-wash your hair on at least a weekly basis
  2. Keep your ends trimmed
  3. Begin your journey with a goal in mind (mine was health)
  4. Vitamins are your friend (either biotin or hair, skin & nails)
  5. Get a good night’s rest
  6. Work out regularly
  7. Develop good stress-coping techniques
  8. Be careful not use too much protein if your hair is relaxed
  9. Don’t be afraid to mix other ingredients in a deep conditioner ( I like to add olive oil and honey!)
  10. Drink at least 8 servings of water
  11. Sleep with a bonnet cap or satin pillowcase
  12. Avoid products that have petroleum or mineral oil in their ingredient list
  13. Read the ingredient list on your potential products
  14. Detangle your hair in the shower
  15. Dry your hair in a T-Shirt instead of a towel
  16. Protective styles are your friend
  17. When using heat tools, invest in higher grade metal mediums (ceramic, titanium, gold-plated, etc).
  18. ALWAYS use a heat protecting product when using heat tools
  19. When trying new products, introduce them 1 at a time; that way you can tell if your hair likes it or not.
  20. Buff your nails before washing your hair to prevent any snagging
  21. When using buns as a protective style, change the position of your bun often

I’m sure there are many more that I haven’t named. Let me know what yours are below! Much love & have a great day!

Mini Beauty Haul

Hello Lovelies,

After doing a little research on the best foundations for all skins types, I came across a few to try; so I took a little trip to Sephora. After having a conversation with the consultant in the store, I made my mind to try out Nars Sheer Glow. I also decided to pick up a few other new things to try:

Yves Saint Laurent Babydoll Mascara; “Mind Over Matter” Matte Topcoat by Formula X for Sephora; Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Mini Spray; Nars Sheer Glow Foundation in Cadiz

After I have a chance to play with these I’ll do a review of my new goodies. Let me know what new products you’ve been trying and loving lately!

Biotin: The Beauty Vitamin

Hello Lovelies,

I don’t know how many of you have heard of or tried the supplement but today we’re talking about Biotin. Taken once daily, it claims to promote hair, skin, and nail health & growth. Sounds good, right? But I know of 2 questions rolling through your heads: does it work and if so, how does it work?

I’ve been taking it for the past 3 months or so, mostly for my hair and skin. While I am not a doctor, I can tell you guys my experience with the supplement. As far as if it works, it does for the most part, but for me I could see the progress in steps.Within the first 2 weeks, I noticed it in my nails. Then I noticed it on my skin. Along with my skin regimen, I really helped to keep my hormonal acne (hate it!) at bay. Finally, within a month, I started to notice it in my hair. It’s not like I immediately had flowing locks or anything, but a small difference. Also the new growth that did come in looks well-nourished.

My Verdict: I’m still taking and will continue to take it because the benefits I see in my skin alone are worth it to me. This supplement won’t take the place of a regimen but it will enhance and help you along the way.

Healthy Hair Journey: Building a Regimen

Choosing Products

I’ve been on my healthy hair journey for about 1.5 years now. Through the ups & downs consistency has been the most important factor. This is where a regimen comes in!  A hair care regimen typically includes the following:

Moisturizing Shampoo (Used 1x a week)

Clarifying Shampoo (Used 1x per month or as needed)

Moisturizing Conditioner (Used as a “shampoo” in between washes)

Moisturizing Deep Conditioner (Used every time I wash my hair with shampoo)

Protein-Based Deep Conditioner (Used 1x per month or as needed)

Daily Moisturizer (Used every night )

Sealing Oil (I use thinner oils nightly; and a thicker one on my scalp the day before Wash Day)

This is just a skeleton regimen to get you started. The frequency that I use in my regimen may not be what works for your hair and your lifestyle; so feel free to tailor-make your regimen to fit you.  As far as specific products, that will be between you and your hair. You’ll know if it does like a product (shiny, soft, manageable) or if it doesn’t (shedding, dry, dull). Those same clues can also help you decide if you hair needs more moisture or protein…I’ll save that for a later date, though.  You will just have to experiment…that’s part of the journey though :-).

Are you on your healthy hair journey as well? How did you set your regimen? Let me know below & Happy Hair Journey!

Naked 3…Got it!

Naked 3 by Urban Decay

I haven’t had it for long…and I’m still experimenting with the color combinations…but I have it: The Naked 3 palette by Urban Decay! It was recently released as the third neutral palette with all new rose toned shades.  I won’t do a full review right now, but at first impression I LOVE that this palette doesn’t have so many super-frosty shades; there’s a good mix of mattes, frosts and satins to make great looks.  The warm rosy tone will also be great for the spring and summer months.

Open Palette

Color Names from Left to Right: Strange, Dust, Burnout, Limit, Buzz, Trick, Nooner, Liar, Factory, Mugshot, Darkside, and Blackheart

Arm Swatches

Here’s how they swatch on skin; I didn’t swatch it with a primer so that you could see what they look like naturally.

I’ve done a few day looks with it…and I love it, but I want to try a few night looks before I give it a full review. I’ll also give a couple tutorials with it.

Have any of you tried the palette yet? What do you think about it? Let me know below!

From my makeup case to yours I hope you have a great night!

Enjoy Today!

Enjoy Today!

I saw this online and besides thinking it was a beautiful graphic, it really did remind me to take the time to enjoy each day fully. We all get up, and begin our usual routines, go to sleep, and do it all over again…merely surviving. It’s so easy to forget that each day really IS a blessing and we’re all one choice away from a life change.  In our world of survival we must place little pieces of life into our days to transition from surviving to living. Sometimes it can be as small as a a cup of tea before you start working in your cubicle or 10 minutes of meditation when you first wake up. Here are some of my pieces of “Life”:

  • Tea…especially green tea
  • Hiking or walking in a park
  • Reading…anything!
  • Singing & Dancing
  • Anything Beauty-Related

What parts of your day are just for you? I’d love to hear about them below!
