Catching Up

Hi Ladies,

How is everyone? I feel like I haven’t been on here since ’95! All jokes aside I want to thank those of you that are still sticking around. I’ve had a few transitions in my personal life which left me feeling a little unmotivated as far as beauty and makeup. And I’m sorry for that. When situations that you cannot control, it’s important to remember what you can control: your priorities, your values, sharing what you have to bring to the table, etc. That process is a transition of itself :-). I’ll share some more in posts to come, I just wanted to let you where I’ve been.

But I’m looking forward to sharing some fun fall things with you guys; fall is actually my FAVORITE season. Food, makeup, clothes, weather…everything, lol. Let me know what kinds of looks you want to see or what kinds of things you want me to look into!

The Confidence Code

Ok so before I get on to the fun stuff I just a small managerial note I want to make to you guys. First off I want to thank you all for  following me and showing interest in the things that I’m interested in; I feel like I’m simply gaining new friends in diverse places :-). So, to help you, help me, help you, I’m going to start posting every Thursday. That way it will be easier for you to know when to expect something from me and it help keep me on a definite schedule. No more hap-hazard posts, lol! Thanks guys for reading & supporting and remember every Thursday!

Ok, now that that’s out-of-the-way I wanted to talk to you guys about a book that I recently finished that really challenged the way that I thought about things, as a girl. With the campaigns like #BanBossy and #LikeAGirl the question is sweeping the nation: what are we really teaching our girls? Are we teaching them to be confident and strong or to feel inadequate and unsure of their abilities? The Confidence Code by Katty Kay and Claire Shipman, addresses these questions.

Confidence Code Cover

I’m not going to give an in-depth synopsis of their research, but I am going to delve into what I learned and those stories touched me. One common thread within all of the anecdotes was that everyone constantly had this fear of being wrong or being disliked. I, and I’m sure many of you, grapple with this dilemma. But why and why is this not something that men worry about?

After asking myself those questions along with many others, I discovered that the majority of my worries derive from my concerns of what other people think about my decisions.  After reading this and seeing that this that this is a common thread that all women go through and eventually have to overcome for success, I felt a shift in my thinking in this area. I don’t have to agree with my “default settings” so to speak.

The only person who has to live with your choices is you, and if you don’t make them, there’s always someone ready to make them for you. Be bold and be confident on your gifts. Make a decision; the worst that can happen is that you’ll be wrong (and it’s not the end of the world).

I don’t know if you all like blogs like this…I don’t do them often. But let me know if do you or do not like them. Have you read the book? Tell me in a comment below what your takeaways were. Haven’t read the book? Share with me your thoughts on confidence (and go read the book).

Much Love,

XOXO Brittani

Losing the Winter Layer

Hello Lovelies,

Now that Spring is finally springing it’s time to start thinking about getting swimsuit-ready. I have a friend on Facebook who has been posting her weight loss/healthy habit progress; she along with my own winter layer getting on my nerves (lol) have really inspired me. So, with that being said as of Tuesday, (April 8) I’ve kicked off my own “Lose the Winter Layer” regimen. I’ve started eating healthier, and working out at least 3 times a week. I downloaded the Nike + Training app to help me; it has individual workouts and workout plans to help you reach your goals. I’m on the “Get Lean” Program.

I won’t flood my blog with posts on this (maybe 1 or 2 per month) but I will give more of a play-by-play of my progress on Facebook (search for Be Amazing B) and Twitter(@BeAmazingB).  If you’re doing the same, come follow me on either we can support each other in the cause!

Biotin: The Beauty Vitamin

Hello Lovelies,

I don’t know how many of you have heard of or tried the supplement but today we’re talking about Biotin. Taken once daily, it claims to promote hair, skin, and nail health & growth. Sounds good, right? But I know of 2 questions rolling through your heads: does it work and if so, how does it work?

I’ve been taking it for the past 3 months or so, mostly for my hair and skin. While I am not a doctor, I can tell you guys my experience with the supplement. As far as if it works, it does for the most part, but for me I could see the progress in steps.Within the first 2 weeks, I noticed it in my nails. Then I noticed it on my skin. Along with my skin regimen, I really helped to keep my hormonal acne (hate it!) at bay. Finally, within a month, I started to notice it in my hair. It’s not like I immediately had flowing locks or anything, but a small difference. Also the new growth that did come in looks well-nourished.

My Verdict: I’m still taking and will continue to take it because the benefits I see in my skin alone are worth it to me. This supplement won’t take the place of a regimen but it will enhance and help you along the way.

Like this post or want to share your experience with Biotin? Let me know below!

Enjoy Today!

Enjoy Today!

I saw this online and besides thinking it was a beautiful graphic, it really did remind me to take the time to enjoy each day fully. We all get up, and begin our usual routines, go to sleep, and do it all over again…merely surviving. It’s so easy to forget that each day really IS a blessing and we’re all one choice away from a life change.  In our world of survival we must place little pieces of life into our days to transition from surviving to living. Sometimes it can be as small as a a cup of tea before you start working in your cubicle or 10 minutes of meditation when you first wake up. Here are some of my pieces of “Life”:

  • Tea…especially green tea
  • Hiking or walking in a park
  • Reading…anything!
  • Singing & Dancing
  • Anything Beauty-Related

What parts of your day are just for you? I’d love to hear about them below!

XOXO
